logo_ENEAENEA is the Italian government agency responsible for the areas of new technology, energy and the environment. It is the largest research, development and dissemination body in Italy in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy. Approximately 500 technicians and scientists are employed in that activity with an annual budget of more than 60 million EURO. ENEA is also the main technical support of the Italian governmental and local institutions (as, i.e., the industry and environment Ministries, and Regional councils) for the energy/environmental themes and relevant policy planning. Beyond its research activities, ENEA is currently involved in the Government efforts to comply with Kyoto protocol objects, in demand side policy actions and iAn technical studies for the revision of energy policy measures (energy efficiency/ecodesign requirements and energy labelling schemes) for domestic end-uses. ENEA is strongly involved in RUE policies and measures for the improvement of energy labelling and efficiency for end-uses and buildings, has regional offices (CCEI) covering the whole of Italy for the dissemination of energy efficient technologies and is member of the EnR network. Main ENEA actions in dissemination of energy efficient labelled products and technologies in the private/public sectors are:

  • Thematic Publications on end-used and household appliances: from the consumers' point of view, ENEA published and upgraded regularly several booklets within its "Sustainable Development" series in which the energy labels are described in detail and advice is given to consumers on how to buy an efficient appliance and how to use it at best. In addition, the “Energy and Environment Report” is published annually, with a chapter dealing with energy consumption in domestic/tertiary sector.
  • National training courses: several courses are at present being organised by ENEA on behalf of both Ministries for Productive Activities and Environment in the field of sustainable development for example for boiler installers and certificators and installers for photovoltaic systems.
  • ENEA-CCEI Network: CCEI is a network of 13 ENEA regional offices for assistance and consulting to the final public and private users in the area of the energy issues, concerning also civil sector, i.e. climatisation systems, insulation, improving and the energy efficiency in buildings. About 40 experts are involved in this activity which is located in the various cities of the country.
