European Commission adopts new standars on vehicle noise
New regulation needs approval by the European Parliament and the member states
The new noise standards proposed by the European Commission are aimed to cut noise levels from cars, vans, buses and lorries. Environmental and health groups welcome the new regulation as a move in the right direction but criticize that the limits do not go far enough since most of today's vehicles already comply with them. They demand futher steps to significantly reduce health and security impacts of traffic noise.
