Energy label-type certificate for carbon footprint?
Schemes for new Product Environmental Footprint label are being discussed.
The EU Commission is about to introduce a Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) which is to display a product's environmental impact. The PEF initiative aims at finding a methodology to measure 14 categories in total, some of which not being relevant for climate change. However, as Joe Hennon, spokesman for Environment Commissioner Janez Potočnik, pointed out the new standard should focus on the three most relevant categries employing a grading scheme similar to the EU Energy Label. Yet, other options for communication like smartphone codes are still being considered.
