Energy label-type certificate for carbon footprint?

Schemes for new Product Environmental Footprint label are being discussed.

The EU Commission is about to introduce a Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) which is to display a product's environmental impact. The PEF initiative aims at finding a methodology to measure 14 categories in total, some of which not being relevant for climate change. However, as Joe Hennon, spokesman for Environment Commissioner Janez Potočnik, pointed out the new standard should focus on the three most relevant categries employing a grading scheme similar to the EU Energy Label. Yet, other options for communication like smartphone codes are still being considered.

Consumers buying more efficient cars in Europe

The average car sold in the EU in 2012 was 9 % more fuel-efficient than the average three years before, according to a new report from the European Environment Agency (EEA). Improved technology and an increase in the share of diesel cars are the main reasons behind the fall in average CO2 emissions. more
