Principles of the label include a series of common efforts and commitments towards the environmental protection and pollution prevention and reduction of tourism and related services.

To apply for the label "Jesolo per l'Ambiente", tourist operators should deliver not later than 20 August of each year to the Associazione Jesolana Albergatori a form showing the fulfilled criteria, defined according to the accommodation category: at least 10 for the one-star hotels, at least 12 for the two-star hotels, at least 14 for the three-star hotels and at least 16 for the four-star hotels, including the mandatory requirements N. 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 24, 26 and 27 of the following list:

  1. accessibility to handicapped people
  2. furniture and equipment without synthetic materials
  3. energy savings heating and conditioning systems
  4. centralised regulation of HVAC
  5. no noise pollution
  6. presence of a green area
  7. use of car parking in external parking areas
  8. free bicycles available for guests
  9. collective transfer systems
  10. low consumption light sources in common spaces
  11. differentiate waste collection
  12. returnable containers
  13. ecologic paper for stationery and printing
  14. ecologic paper product in toilets
  15. natural deodorant
  16. reduction of wastes from catering
  17. reduction or absence of pre-packaged products
  18. use of biologic products
  19. biologic wines
  20. macrobiotic and vegetarian menu available
  21. use of biologic promotional articles (plastic bags, etc.)
  22. water savings devices
  23. water hardness reduction systems
  24. use of biodegradable detergent
  25. dosage for washing machine and dishwasher detergents
  26. linen change upon request of the guest
  27. non-smoking places
  28. pets allowed
  29. participation to the competition “Jesolo Fiorita”

The participation to the project could be promoted in advertising campaigns from the single societies.

Control mechanisms:

An ad-hoc Commission, including a representative of the Associazione Jesolana Albergatori (Jesolo Hotels Association), the Associazione Commercianti (Association of Dealers), the municipality, and the Tourist Information Office of the Venice province will verify by the 20th August of each year the compliance with the criteria and will award the annual label.

Relevance on the market:

Promoted in 1993, the first 43 labels were awarded in 1994; today, the number of awarded hotels is around 100; the Municipality of Jesolo was one of the first cases of ISO 14001 certification of a town in Italy. All these activities have been merged in the first pilot case-study of application of IPP in Italy starting from March 2001.
