ok-Power
Target
- expansion of renewable energy generation through new plants
- improvement of the environmental conditions
- to create transparency on the electricity market
Criteria
The ‘Öko-Institut’, ‘World Wide Fund for Nature’ (WWF) Germany and the Consumer Agency NRW have set up the association ‘EnergieVision e.V.’, which issues the ‘ok-power’ label in Germany.
The certificate can be issued for two different kinds of green energy products:
- suply offering: in this case the customer is supplied with green energy.
- fund offering: The customer is supplied with the same power as before. He pays an additional fee which is set for the setting up of new renewable power plants.
- the additional fee has to be invested in the expansion of renewable energy generation
- at least 1 % of the Green Power should come from solar energy
- new barrages are not allowed
- only 50 % should come from CHP-electricity (combined heat and power cycle)
Market relevance
The ‘ok-Power’ label exists since 2000. 16 providers were labelled so far. The label guarantees the expansion of renewable power plants beyond the regulations of Renewable Energy Law (REL). The review of the criteria by independent accredited laboratories every year creates high credibility of the label. Therefore the label represents a guiding tool for the customer on the Green Electricity market.
This label does not include the prohibition of owning nuclear power plants. For that reason the label could be interesting for big suppliers which have a nuclear capacity.
