Electricity disclosure

Targets

With the proof of origin of power, the consumers’ attendance according to the environmental impact of power consumption should be increased. On the basis of selected basis information, the comparability and transparency of all power offers should be achieved.

Product Group

The equal electricity disclosure is required for all types of electrical power for household customers.

Criteria

The electricity disclosure is based on the European directive 2003/54/EC. The directive had to be implemented in national law of the respective member states until December 15, 2005. Power suppliers have to publish information about the relative composition of the obtained power (nuclear power, renewable energy, fossil and other energy sources) and its specific environmental impact. In this context it has to differentiate between CO2-emission per kWh, as well as the amount of eventually originating radioactive substances. The power providers are compelled to declare at least the defined information in the electricity bill or in an attachment.

Market Relevance

The electricity disclosure informs only about a few aspects of the obtained energy. Particularly the composition of the power from renewable energy as well as an additional environmental benefit is not displayed. Therewith the electricity disclosure cannot replace the different labels for green power, but rather increase the comparability of basic information and accomplishes a large-scale transparency.
